the fleet of 29er come back on stage From this Thursday until Sunday, 136 crews will participate in this edition of the MedSailing in the waters of Club Nàutic El Balís. This is one of the most important appointments on the class calendar, as this regatta is also the in charge of opening the Eurocup 2023 circuit. The president of CN El Balís, Fran Ripoll, explained that “It is great news for the club to host Medsailing for the ninth consecutive year, as it demonstrates the professionalism of the entire CN El Balís team and, above all, enhances the environment that surrounds us. I believe that the result of the organization of the World Cup last summer, in which we surpassed the participation record, has helped us gain presence and recognition in the sector and demonstrate to ourselves the potential to host any competition in our waters”.
Up to 136 crews will be in contention and there is a wide international representation because there will be 22 ships from Germany, the largest, followed by Switzerland with 17 and Italy with 16. It is planned to hold 16 tests with a maximum of four per day and the focus will undoubtedly be on Spanish sailors. The presence of Susana Bestard and María Teresa Martín from the Balearic Islands, who have been proclaimed champions of Spain, and Neus García and María Busquets, runners-up in the women’s category last weekend in the waters of the Real Club Náutico de Valencia, stand out.
Regarding international participation, the runners-up in the world, the Italians Alex Demurtas and Giovanni Santi; and the French Hugo Revil and Karl Devaux, absolute third in the 29er World Cup. The U-17 world champions, the Hungarian Soma Kis-Szolgyémi together with Andras Sámuel Juhász, as well as the U-17 world runners-up, the French Tom Goron and Mael Clochard will also participate.
