Mohammed Shami returned to the Indian team after the poor performance of the Indian fast bowlers in the Asian Cup. But just before the start of the series against Australia, Mohammed Shami’s corona virus report came back positive and he was ruled out of the three-match T20 series.
Mohammed Shami was previously expected to be fit until the South African series. But a source associated with the Indian team said: “Shami has not recovered from the corona virus. The medical team is keeping an eye on Shami. We are hopeful that Mohammed Shami will be fully fit before he leaves for Australia for the T20 World Cup.
Let us tell you that Mohammed Shami has a place in the reserve player list for the T20 World Cup. However, Shami has not played any T20 matches for India after last year’s T20 World Cup. But Shami got a spot on the reserve list based on his experience.
The Indian team, however, has prepared its backup plan in case Shami does not play. If Shami is not fit for the South Africa series, then Umran Malik can return to the India team. Umran Malik was dropped from the India squad after the tour of England.
