Fernando Alonso, the renowned Spanish pilot of Formula 1has stated that his team, Aston Martin, is benefiting from Ferrari’s current inconsistency, team he has driven for in the past. Ferrari, the most successful team in Formula 1 history, is currently entering its 15th season without winning a title, and that streak looks set to continue as the Scuderia sits a distant fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. after five rounds in 2023.
Alonso was close to returning success to Maranello since Ferrari won the Constructors’ title in 2008, taking two title fights to the end in 2010 and 2012. However, Ferrari has not been able to compete in a championship until the end of the season since, with inconsistent car development, mistakes of strategy and reliability issues being pointed out as the three key areas where it has failed.
Ferrari’s competitiveness during the Alonso period and its current inconsistency
Although Ferrari did not have the competitive advantage during Alonso’s five years to really challenge a dominant Red Bull team in terms of sheer speed, the Spaniard claims that the ability of the Italian team to be operationally Cash was an integral part in holding a title fight to the last round twice.
“With Ferrari, we were always there every year. Alonso left Ferrari at the end of 2014 after a disastrous start to the turbo-hybrid era that saw Ferrari winless in a season for the first time in 21 years.
Alonso’s return to F1 with Alpine and his surprising move to Aston Martin
The two-time champion returned to McLaren, but after four years of struggling with uncompetitive and insecure machinery, Alonso opted to retire from F1 at the end of 2018. However, Alonso was not long in returning, announcing in May 2020 that he would return to racing with the Alpine team, owned by the Renault Group, with which he won his two world championships.
Despite a comeback season spent fighting in the middle of the pack, Alonso enjoyed his return to the F1 podium for the first time in seven years at the Qatar Grand Prix. With the advent of new regulations for 2022, Alpine moved up two spots in the priority order, trailing only the top three teams at the end of the season.
