This Tuesday, the President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, called the Chargé d’Affaires in Ecuador to consult on the events registered in that country related to the entry of armed forces into the Mexican Embassy in Quito.
The information was spread through Ecuador’s social network and called for safe passage for former Ecuadorian President Jorge Glas.
Reina pointed out that the call from her diplomatic representative in Quito represents a “clear message to promote respect for international law in the face of the partial violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1954 Caracas Convention on Asylum in Ecuador”.
The Honduran diplomat said that the situation at the Mexican embassy in Quito “must not become a catastrophic precedent” for the international system and that for this reason these events cannot be repeated.
