Just hours before starting their first practice as the team that will represent the country in the Caribbean Series that starts tomorrow, the Cibao Giants visited President Luis Abinader at the National Palace while declaring themselves ready to face the tournament.
Jesús Mejía, who is the general manager of the team, stated that in his opinion they will be a team to beat in the series and added that the team was reinforced for that.
"Obviously the goal is to win but that cannot be promised, but I think we are a team to beat in the series and I think we managed to put together a very balanced roster but the main thing is that we managed to keep the core of the Giants intact for this Series of Caribbean"Mejia said.
The general manager of the champion team of the autumn-winter tournament expressed that the criteria for taking the reinforcements was to focus on looking for players who have been active in the final series.
"That’s why Canó (Robinson) and Maya (Yunesky) were our priority since the Final Series ended, we also added Gustavo Núñez who can play you in the outfield, run the bases well; In the case of Albert Abreu and Lisalberto Bonilla, it was recommendations from our analytics department who told us that we needed power arms in our rotation."added Mejía who reported that Canó is willing to play defense whenever necessary during the tournament.
One of the main players on that team is outfielder Marcell Ozuna, who was enthusiastic about the opportunity to be in his first Caribbean Series.
"I feel good, the first time I am going to live this experience and we are going to try to release all the positive energies to do the work and give the best of me in the tournament"added Ozuna, who was awarded as the most valuable player of the Final Series.
Another decisive player was shortstop Hansel Alberto, who admitted that there is an extra commitment to win the Series since it will be held in the country.
"Not only now is the enjoyment of San Francisco complete, but now we are the Dominican Republic, the commitment is greater because now we have more than 10 million Dominicans behind the Home, behind their television", who stated that the Giants team has a good chance of winning the tournament due to the class of team they wear.
During his visit to the National Palace, the Giants gave the official jersey to Luis Abinader and took the opportunity to share with the President of the Republic.
The Giants will debut tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. against the Charros de Jalisco at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium.
