Indian pacemaker Mohammed Shami said on Thursday that he is ready for a captain’s role in Test cricket, but added that the idea of leading the Indian team is not on his mind at the moment.
Speaking to a website, Mohammed Shami said: “I’m not thinking much about the captaincy at the moment. Whatever responsibility I’ve been given, I’m ready for it. To be honest, who shouldn’t be the captain of the team Indian”. I want to, but whatever responsibility is assigned to me, I will contribute fully to it.
The fast bowler was rested for the limited overs series against India which began on February 6, as Shami has been playing continuously for the past few months. Shami said: “I am available for selection in all formats and if it happens I look forward to it.”
In Test cricket, India’s team leading bowler Mohammed Shami did not even play the three-match ODI series against South Africa, in which India lost 0–3. Shami also rested in the ODI series against South Africa.
At the same time, this right-armed fast bowler took 14 wickets in the Test series. Shami was instrumental in India’s historic victory at Centurion, but after that, Team India lost the series after losing trials in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
