The facade of the historic Copenhagen Stock Exchange, one of Denmark's oldest buildings, has collapsed

The main facade of the old stock exchange CopenhagenThe building, destroyed by fire on Tuesday, collapsed on Thursday afternoon, Danish emergency services said.

“Unfortunately, the facade in front of the Frederiksholms Canal has collapsed,” the services wrote in X, stating that no injuries were reported and the area was evacuated.

According to images from the Danish media, the structure collapsed with a loud bang.

Supports were installed along this facade to limit the risk of collapse.

The emergency services announced in the early afternoon that the crane operation would begin on Friday afternoon to evacuate the collapsed parts of the roof.

The fire broke out under the roof of the building for an unknown cause at around 7:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday and half of the building burned.

Built in the 17th century, the Old Stock Exchange, which is celebrating its 400th anniversary this year, also houses an extensive collection of works of art, several hundred of which are insured.
