The family basket for the lower income families (quintile one) increased RD$4,755.00, since President Luis Abinader took office in August 2020, going from RD$21,153.51 on that date to RD$25,908.60 in January of this year.

The data offered by the Central Bank indicate the behavior of the basic baskets of the five quintiles or economic groups into which they are divided, according to the level of income of the families.

According to the statistics, the basket of quintile two, in August 2020 was located at RD$27,663.11 and in January 2023 it was at RD$33,787.97, about RD$6,124.86 more. The basket of quintile 3 was at RD$32,950.98 and rose to RD$39,687.09, some RD$6,736.11 more.

In the case of quintile 4, the prices of the basket varied from RD$38,601.74 to RD$46,341.85, some RD$7,740.11 more, and for quintile 5, the variation was from RD$60,187.65 to RD$71,188.67, which represents an increase of RD$11,001.02.

The average or national basket, in that period it increased RD$7,401.00, when varying from RD$36,083.88 to RD$43,484.94.

The variation in the prices of the basic basket products are due, according to economists, to the inflationary process.
