American novelist Nancy Crampton Brophy began serving a life sentence on Monday for the murder of her husband. She was the one who wrote the well-known essay entitled “How to Kill Her Husband”.
The writer, specializing in sentimental novels with titles as evocative as “Hell in the heart” or “The bad husband”, was convicted on May 25 of the murder of Daniel Brophy. She will have to wait 25 years before she can apply for parole.
Two bullets in the heart
During her trial, the author accused of having killed her husband with two bullets in the heart in June 2018 denied everything. She assured the judges and jury that the CCTV footage where she appeared near the crime scene simply showed her looking for inspiration for her books.
According to prosecutors, Nancy Crampton Brophy had financial problems at the time of the events. Her husband had been killed at 63 in the cooking school where he taught, and had been found by students in a classroom, on the ground. His wife had been arrested in September 2018 and had been in pre-trial detention ever since.
