Washington: US President Joe Biden’s administration has announced another billion dollars in military aid to Ukraine.
The United States will provide Ukraine with an additional $1 billion in security assistance, the largest arms package since the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
According to the foreign news agency Associated Press, under the newly announced aid, rockets, ammunition and other weapons will be provided directly from the Ministry of Defense’s weapons depot to the Ukrainian forces.
The announcement of US aid comes after reports that Russia was moving troops and weapons to the southern coastal city to prevent a counterattack from Ukraine.
The announced aid includes additional rockets for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HAMARS), thousands of artillery shells, mortar systems and other weapons.
According to military commanders and other US officials, HUMARS and artillery systems have been instrumental in preventing Russia from taking over Ukraine.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine at the end of February this year, the United States has announced a total of nine billion dollars worth of military aid to Ukraine.
