Gustavo Petro, who this Sunday took office as president of Colombia, broke down the 10 points on which he will work in his four-year term and which he has as backbone Peace, the woman, the dialogue "With everyone"fight against corruption and protection of life.
It is a decalogue that he enunciated during his investiture speech and that deals with the following points:
1. PEACE
The head of state promised to work for "achieve true and definitive peace", with which he promised to comply with the peace agreement. "We cannot fail Colombian society. The dead deserve it. The living need it. Life must be the basis of peace"assured.
2. THE CARE
He promised to take care of old age and childhood, disability and "those that history or society has marginalized". "we’ll do one policy of care so that no one is left behind"said and "a policy sensitive to the suffering and pain of others, with tools and solutions to create equality".
3. GENDER EQUALITY
"I will rule with and for the women of Colombia"stressed the new president who undertook -again- to create a Ministry of Equality headed by Vice President Francia Márquez. "We want real equality and security so that Colombian women can walk calmly and not fear for their lives"he emphasized.
4. DIALOG WITHOUT EXCEPTIONS
"I will dialogue with everyone, without exceptions or exclusions"argued Petro, who will have "a government with open doors for anyone who wants to discuss the problems of Colombia". Since he was elected he has emphasized on the idea of a great national agreement.
5. LISTEN
He also promised to listen to all Colombians. "It is not governed from a distance, away from the people and disconnected from their realities. Quite the contrary: it is governed by listening", claimed, and promised "mechanisms and dynamics so that every Colombian feels heard in this Government".
6. AGAINST VIOLENCE
"I will defend Colombian men and women from violence and I will work so that families feel safe and calm"pointed out the new president, who spoke of "a comprehensive security strategy"ranging from prevention to "prosecution of criminal structures and modernization of security forces".
7. FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION
advocated for "firm hand and without hesitation" to corruption. "Let’s get back what was stolen monitor so that it does not happen again and transform the system to discourage this type of practice"pointed.
8. ENVIRONMENT
"I will protect our soil and subsoil, our seas and rivers, our air and sky", assured Petro, who speaks of the strong defense of the environment in almost all his speeches. so promised "confront the uncontrolled deforestation of our forests and promote the development of renewable energies".
9. PROMOTE DEVELOPMENT
National industry, popular economy and Colombian countryside as pillars of development and "accompany and support everyone who strives for Colombia". "Our invitation is to produce, to work, to be aware that we will only be a rich society if we work"he claimed.
10. COMPLY WITH THE CONSTITUTION
And, finally, he highlighted another of the phrases that he has said the most: that he will comply with the Constitution, although he mentioned that "better laws, new laws at the service of the great majority and guarantee their compliance".
