Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has predicted great success for his country’s young leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga at next month’s T20 World Cup in Australia. He also said that it will prove fatal for the forward team. After a stellar performance at the Asian Cup, Wanindu Hasaranga has climbed three places to sixth in the latest ICC Bowler Rankings and has risen from seventh to fourth in the all-around list.
Wanindu Hasaranga took nine wickets in the entire tournament. Of which he took three wickets against Pakistan in the final and his form was a big reason why Sri Lanka was able to win the Asian Cup title for the sixth time. Speaking of Hasaranga on RoyalChallengers.com, Muralitharan said: “He’s a tremendous T20 bowler. In the last 2-3 years, he’s done very well. He’s a young player. Definitely Australia. In the US, the Leg spinners will have more opportunities than toe spinners. It will be difficult for the opponent to hit against them. You have to be very careful against them.”
Muralitharan praises young Sri Lankan team
Murali also praised the young Sri Lankan team and their efforts in the Asian Cup. “We had a very young team over the years. We played the best cricket in the Asian Cup. They looked like the best team and deserved to win the Asian Cup,” he said. To reach the Super 12, Sri Lanka will have to get through the qualifying stage, where they will play against Namibia, the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands.
