Syria: 70 migrants who went to Europe for employment drowned in the sea

Damascus: 70 people drowned when a boat carrying migrants from Lebanon to Europe for a better future capsized off the coast of Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an organization that monitors the situation of human rights in Syria, has reported that the number of dead has reached 70 when a boat of immigrants from different countries from Lebanon sank near the coast of Syria.

The observatory told media that 23 people on board were rescued during a rescue operation after a migrant boat capsized near the Syrian coast.

International news agency According to the report A boat carrying 150 migrants from Lebanon to Europe capsized off the coast of Syria and the passengers awoke in the deep sea.

Coast Guard personnel have recovered the bodies of 70 migrants from the sea and several passengers are still missing while others have been rescued out of which 20 are being treated in hospital and 3 are said to be in critical condition.

These immigrants left Lebanon two days ago to go to Europe, the economic situation in Lebanon is very bad and the government has also banned money withdrawal from banks.

It should be noted that due to the worsening economic conditions in Lebanon, the number of migrants trying to escape by sea has doubled. Their destination is often Cyprus, a European country off the coast of Lebanon.

It started with Palestinian and Syrian refugees who did not hesitate to make this perilous journey in search of a new beginning.
