Sweden’s first female prime minister resigns

Sweden’s first female prime minister-elect, Magdalena Anderson, resigned just hours after being elected.

According to international media, Prime Minister Magdalena Anderson was made Prime Minister on Wednesday and she resigned a few hours later that day.

Magdalena Anderson resigned after failing to approve the budget and splitting the coalition.

The Swedish parliament voted in favor of the opposition’s budget, rather than the government, which includes far-right anti-immigrant parties. Magdalena Anderson said she would try to become prime minister again without the opposition.

The Social Democrat leader said that it was a constitutional process that the coalition government had to resign when one of the parties resigned. He further added that he did not want to lead a government whose legitimacy was being questioned.

On the other hand, the Assembly Speaker said that he would decide the next course of action after consulting the party leaders.
