Through these films an attempt was made to show the pain of the riots and their impact. Anil Sharma attempted to bring the love story around Partition and the riots to the screen through the film ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ in 2001 with Sunny Deol, Amisha Patel and Amrish Puri.

‘Gadar Ek Prem Katha’ was a movie based on a true story. The film tells the love story of Fauji Buta Singh, who served in the British Army in Burma (Myanmar) during World War II. Although the filmmaker had also made some changes to the film according to his own. Buta Singh Singh’s girlfriend dies in the real story, but this is not shown in the film. ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ is the story of a truck driver Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), who aspires to become a singer, but due to an accident, she cannot fulfill her dream. After the partition of the country, the fires of unrest ignite everywhere. Meanwhile, Tara meets Sakina (Amisha Patel), who is in trouble.

The two get married, but Sakina’s father (Amrish Puri) invites them to Pakistan but won’t let them return. Now, what Sunny fights to bring his wife back to him, this has been shown in the movie. There is no shortage of great dialogue in the film.

As cool and entertaining as the movie was, its music was great too. Anand Bakshi wrote the lyrics and Uttam-Jagdish Wale Uttam Singh composed it beautifully. The songs of ‘Gadar Ek Prem Katha’ became such a success that 25 lakh units of music from the film were sold that year.

Gadar Ek Prem Katha released together with Oscar winner Aamir Khan’s Lagaan. Even after this, the film gained a lot. This was the third Sunny Deol film to be released alongside Aamir Khan’s film.
