Inside Out 2 Under Fire for Anxiety Memes

Controversy over anxiety memes in Inside Out 2

“Wait until you discover that 8 hours of work is worth a roast chicken,” it’s one of the most replicated phrases in the memes that unleashed the arrival of Inside Out 2.

Don’t worry, we won’t bring spoilers. In general terms, the film seeks to reflect what happens inside us when anxiety dominates our lives, but racing does not forgive anything, and the memes were released with everything to emphasize that Riley, the character on whom the entire story revolves, still doesn’t know “true” anxiety.

And just like that, the phrase No Riley became a trend on social networks precisely because of the large number of memes that were created. From how eight hours of work is worth the same as a roast chicken, to bringing to the table topics such as menstruation, the COVID-19 pandemic, and how difficult it is to get tickets to your favorite concert or festival, with the added stress of virtual queues.

Here are some examples of these memes:

  • No Riley and wait until you reach the almost something stage.
  • No Riley, wait until you have to decide your future by choosing a career at 17 years old.
  • No Riley and you didn’t have a pandemic.
  • No Riley and wait until you have to cry in the bathroom at work and then walk out like nothing happened.

However, some people feel that these memes seek to minimize Riley’s problems in Inside Out 2, even taking aim at “privileged” people and their “first world” problems. Many bands want to make it clear that people want to criticize Riley’s problems, even if it’s just for a laugh.

But let’s be real, the essence of the No Riley memes was not meant to be taken seriously. The idea of memes is to have fun and highlight things that most ordinary people experience every day, without minimizing that we can all suffer from anxiety for different reasons. Wow, take the “oops, that’s nothing” with humor, not as a criticism of those who suffer from anxiety for reasons other than their own.

We believe that it should not be taken to the level of judge who identifies with Riley and the plot in Inside Out 2, leave the memes where they are: Memes. Or what do you think?
