Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has received a financial lifeline from Sunil Gavaskar’s CHAMPS Foundation.
The foundation will provide Kambli with a monthly stipend of ₹30,000 for life, helping him cover his living expenses.
In addition to the monthly stipend, Kambli will also receive ₹30,000 annually to help with his medical bills.
Vinod Kambli’s Struggles
Kambli has been struggling with poor health in recent years.
In December last year, he was hospitalized for two months due to a urinary tract infection.
The hospitalization came to light when Dr. Shailesh Thakur, Director of Akriti City Hospital in Thane, where Kambli was treated, revealed that Gavaskar had offered to help Kambli as soon as he heard about his condition.
CHAMPS Foundation’s Mission
The CHAMPS Foundation, established by Gavaskar in 1999, supports athletes in need.
The foundation’s efforts have now extended to Kambli, providing him with the financial assistance he requires.
Gavaskar and Kambli had met recently at the 50th-anniversary celebration of Wankhede Stadium, where Kambli had paid his respects to Gavaskar.
A Helping Hand
Kambli was struggling to stand on his own feet during the unveiling ceremony of coach Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial last December.
Gavaskar’s foundation has stepped in to provide him with the necessary support.
The financial assistance from the CHAMPS Foundation will go a long way in helping Kambli manage his health and living expenses.
