Praful Hinge destroys Royals top order: The street cricket obsession behind SRH’s historic IPL debut

Sunrisers Hyderabad shattered the Rajasthan Royals’ undefeated streak with a dominant 57-run victory. The foundation of that win came from an unprecedented opening spell by a 24-year-old debutant. Praful Hinge delivered a historic performance on April 13, taking 4/34 and dismantling the Royals’ top order. Driven by an explosive 91 off 44 balls from stand-in captain Ishan Kishan, SRH posted 216/6. Hinge and fellow debutant Sakib Hussain then suffocated the chase, bowling Rajasthan out for 159.

Hinge ripped through the batting lineup instantly. He became the first bowler in the 19-year history of the Indian Premier League to claim three wickets in the opening over of an innings. He removed 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius in rapid succession.

The dismissal of Sooryavanshi was not an accident. Hinge explicitly targeted the teenager. In a post-match interview, Hinge revealed he manifested the exact delivery, telling people his plan was to force a golden duck with a first-ball bouncer. He executed the trap perfectly. The vicious delivery sent Sunrisers co-owner Kavya Maran into an ecstatic celebration that quickly flooded social media feeds.

The path to this explosive debut was nearly derailed by physical collapse. A severe stress fracture in his back threatened to end Hinge’s career before it began. His father, Prakash Hinge, detailed the family’s turbulent journey to reporters on Tuesday. Prakash, a retired MSEB employee, explained that his son’s obsession with sports left them with no other option.

“Pure din gully cricket khelta rehta tha; majboori mein academy mein daala,” Prakash said, according to a post-match interview with NDTV.

Former Indian pacer and current SRH bowling coach Varun Aaron hand-held the young bowler through his grueling injury rehab. Once healthy, Hinge caught the attention of Australian legend Glenn McGrath at the MRF Pace Foundation. McGrath focused heavily on Hinge’s line and length, eventually securing him a fully-funded training stint in Brisbane to refine his mechanics, the Hindustan Times confirmed.

The investment paid massive dividends in Hyderabad. While Hinge destroyed the top order, Sakib Hussain cleaned up the rest, taking 4/24 in his own debut. Ishan Kishan praised both young pacers after the match, calling them incredibly hungry and motivated.

What the SRH Rookie Takeover Means for the IPL 2026 Playoff Race

This 57-run demolition entirely resets the momentum of the tournament. The Rajasthan Royals looked completely invincible before running into the SRH pace battery. Hinge’s historic first over exposed a vulnerability in the Royals’ young top order under high-velocity pressure.

Hinge is now just the eighth bowler in IPL history to claim four wickets inside the powerplay, The Times of India noted. This unprecedented twin-debutant attack pushes Sunrisers Hyderabad securely into the top four of the points table. Teams facing SRH will now have to completely rewrite their opening six-over strategies to account for Hinge’s aggressive bouncer traps and pinpoint manifestations.
