Stars pay posthumous tribute to commentator Tomás Troncoso

Estrellas rinden homenaje póstumo al comentarista Tomás Troncoso

The Stars paid tribute this Wednesday to the memory of the late baseball commentator Tomás Troncoso Cuesta, to whom the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic dedicates its current tournament, for his outstanding career.

The Stars delivered an acknowledgment plaque alluding to the occasion to the son of Troncoso Cuesta, also a baseball commentator Tomás Manuel (Tommy) Troncoso Rojas, who threw out the first ball of honor, before the game on the date, of the Stars with the Tigres del Licey, the team for which his father worked for many years, and he currently does.

The president of the Stars, Eng. Miguel Feris, presented the plaque to Troncoso Rojas, and took the opportunity to point out the affection that Troncoso Cuesta and his father, the late president of the Stars, Dr. Miguel Feris Iglesias, lavished on each other.

In the same way, Feris highlighted the deep affection that he and Troncoso Cuesta professed, about which he indicated that it was a kind of inheritance from his father, Don Miguel Feris Iglesias.

Feris, on behalf of the Stars, was accompanied at the event by Oscar Valdez, director of the club; Felix Peguero, general manager; and Mike Guerrero, bench coach.

Troncoso Cuesta passed away in November 2021. He began as a commentator on the Cadena de las Águilas Cibaeñas, in 1964. Years later he was a commentator for the Tigres del Licey and Leones del Escogido chains, simultaneously. He later was a commentator on each of them, only, in this order: Licey, Escogido, Licey.

The broadcast booth for the Tigres del Licey radio games, at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, was baptized with his name a few years ago.
