Update on Star Players’ Participation in Domestic Cricket

In light of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) recent directive, top Indian cricketers may face challenges in securing their national team spots if they do not participate in domestic cricket. This directive also implies that their central contracts may be affected. Despite these instructions, it remains to be seen whether prominent players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will participate in domestic cricket.

Rohit Sharma’s Availability for Ranji Trophy

Indian team captain Rohit Sharma has been spotted practicing with Mumbai’s Ranji team. However, it is unclear whether he will represent Mumbai in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, set to commence on January 23.

Virat Kohli’s Injury Concerns

According to media reports, former Indian captain Virat Kohli has notified the BCCI about his ongoing neck pain issues. Kohli had received an injection to alleviate his neck pain, which will prevent him from participating in the second phase of the Ranji Trophy.

KL Rahul’s Injury Update

KL Rahul is also dealing with an injury ahead of the second phase of the Ranji Trophy. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Rahul has informed the BCCI about an elbow issue, which will likely keep him out of the tournament. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding his availability.

Upcoming Ranji Trophy Schedule

The second phase of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 is scheduled to begin on January 23. Following the conclusion of the first phase on November 13, various white-ball domestic tournaments were held. With the white-ball tournament nearing its end, focus will shift to the Ranji Trophy once again.
