Square launches in Spain today Tap to Pay on Android. This new technology allows both businesses and freelancers to accept payments contactless simply and securely with just a compatible Android device, and at no additional cost.

With Tap to Pay on Android, Square makes shopping in person even easier for small businesses starting out and established ones alike. Using a compatible Android device, sellers simply open one of Square’s appssuch as Square POS, Square Appointments, Square for Restaurants or Square Invoices, enter the amount to be paid and hold your phone close to the customer. The customer will see the total amount to be paid together with the already usual contactless payment symbol and can choose to complete the payment with a credit or debit card or with a digital wallet such as Google Pay.

«We run a small cafeteria in Madrid where we have a high turnover of customers. For us, Tap to Pay on Android is a way to optimize payment times. It’s fast and we only need a mobile. Very practical and hassle-free, both for us and for our customers”it states Almudena Duque, owner of FE DE CAFE in Madrid.

Tap to Pay on Android, powered by Square’s elegant and intuitive software, offers businesses a flexible mobile solution that meets today’s consumer preferences for payment methods no contact. Square’s software also benefits customers by providing a seamless and easy checkout experience and enabling them to complete their purchase securely. Tap to Pay on Android uses the security mechanisms inherent in the Square platform to keep merchant and customer data private and secure. When a payment is processed, no card numbers are stored on merchant phones, in accordance with Square’s high security standards.

«With the launch of Tap to Pay on Android we are further lowering the barriers to entry for merchants of all sizes. No hardware purchase is necessary to start accepting payments, so business owners can make a sale on the go simply using a device most of us regularly carry with us: our mobile.”comment Gonzalo Sáenz, Sales Director of Square in Spain. «Knowing that 4 out of 5 mobile devices in Spain have an Android system, the launch of Tap to Pay opens up great opportunities for the owners of a multitude of stores —clothing, cosmetics, jewelry, etc.—, cafes, bars, restaurants, street stalls or markets, to name just a few examples».
