Spotify claims that Apple is blocking updates to its app

Although Apple was fined $2 billion in the past due to Spotify’s complaint about App Store rules, the situation does not appear to have been resolved. According to Spotify, Apple is hindering the updates released by Spotify.

On the 5th of march Spotify sent an update to Apple that included links to the music streaming company’s website. along with pricing information for various subscription options, in the EU version of their app, bypassing Apple’s payment system.

This came in response to a European Commission decision made a day earlier that called out Apple’s anti-targeting rules “illegal” and ordered Apple to allow developers to provide information about it “Alternative and cheaper music subscription services.”

Despite this action by Spotify Apple has not responded to Spotify’s request to include subscription pricing information in the app. prevents Spotify from updating the app for its users, including to fix bugs or add other features.

Spotify says it has not received any feedback from Apple since rolling out the update. The company writes that this is the case “Another example of how Apple, left unchecked, will seek to circumvent and/or fail to comply with the Commission’s decision.” Additionally, the European Commission is urged to contact Apple and request its consent to Spotify’s changes.
