NOS used 5G to transport the captain of the Sporting CP, Sebastian Coates, in hologram. This ‘trip’ went from the José Alvalade Stadium to the Sporting Viana do Castelo Academy School, to inspire a group of young soccer players with a surprise conference that marked the start of the season.
Thanks to this technology, the player interacted in real time with 20 children almost 400 kilometers away, giving them the unforgettable experience of meeting one of their idols.
This was a surprise for Leo’s young players, all between 9 and 11 years old. They thought they were going to hear the usual lesson from his coach and found Coates in his training camp ready to motivate them to work for his dreams.
The player interacted with all the children in real time, even answering their questions and exchanging t-shirts with them. This happened thanks to the potential of the 5Gand its speed and ultra-low latency (or response time).
The operating infrastructure
The holographic operation involved the installation of a technological and scenic infrastructure in Lisbon and Viana do Castelo. Images were captured using a high definition camera, and instantly broadcast at the Viana do Castelo Sports Academy, through the NOS 5G network. Thanks to 5G, it was a simpler and faster process.
“It is a great satisfaction for NOS to have the opportunity to use 5G to provide experiences that would otherwise be impossible. Thanks to the infinite possibilities of this technology, it was possible to shorten distances -in this case 400 kilometers- and take Sebastián Coates to Viana, allowing these children to get to know their idol up close without him leaving the Alvalade stadium”, said Daniel Beato , administrator of the Alvalade Stadium.

This moment comes after, in 2021, NOS used 5G to transmit, in real time, all the most exciting moments of the consecration as champion of the Liga NOS in high quality and in an immersive way.
