Spain already knows who will be the 14 athletes from the country who will compete in the next Winter Olympic Games in Beijing 2022. The final call was approved this Friday after a meeting of the Permanent Commission of the Spanish Olympic Committee.
The Royal Spanish Federation of Ice Sports (RFEDH) will be represented in Beijing by up to 5 athletes: the Spanish skeleton pilot Ander Mirambell, who will participate in his fourth Olympic Games; skaters Laura Barquero and Marco Zandron, who will make their debut in the pairs figure skating event; and the couple formed by Adrián Díaz and Olivia Smart, who will also debut at the Olympic Games in the figure skating dance event.
For its part, the Royal Spanish Federation of Winter Sports (8RFEDI) will attend Beijing with nine athletes. Adur Etxezarreta will compete in the alpine skiing events, in the downhill and super giant events; Joaquim Salarich, who will compete in slalom; and Nuria Pau, present in the giant slalom test. Javier Lliso and Thibault Magnin will compete in the freestyle tests in the slopestyle and big air modalities. For his part, Imanol Rojo will run in the 15+15, 15-kilometer classic and 50-kilometre skiathlon events, while Jaume Puyo will do so in sprint.
The RFEDI call for the Winter Olympic Games is completed by two of Spain’s great assets to get a medal in Beijing 2022 in the snowboard events: Lucas Eguibar, who will participate in the snowboardcross competition with the aim of repeating the medal achieved by Regino Hernández in Pyeongchang 2018; and Queralt Castellet, who will storm the medals in the halfpipe test.
From the COE they point out that the list could undergo some modification until January 24 due to the reallocation of places, which could expand the list of Spanish athletes in the Olympic event. In addition, they have revealed that next Tuesday the 25th it will be revealed who will be the flag bearer of the Spanish Olympic Team in Beijing 2022.
