Somalia: Suicide bombing kills 20, including mayor

Mogadishu: 20 killed in a suicide blast in Somalia.

According to details, 20 people were killed and many injured as a result of a suicide blast in the African country of Somalia.

Somali officials say at least 20 people, including the mayor of the regional capital, were killed in two explosions in the Lower Shabelle region on Wednesday.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack.

The first attack was a suicide attack targeting officials in the town of Murka, the capital of Somalia’s Lower Shabelle region, killing the town’s mayor, Abdullah Ali Wafu, and 12 other people, including the mayor’s advisers.

In another incident on Wednesday, a bomb exploded in what police said was a landmine at a busy cattle market in Afgoye town, killing seven people.

In a video posted on his Facebook page, the president of the southwestern state, Abdulaziz Hassan Mohammed, strongly condemned al-Shabaab and the suicide bomber, saying the suicide bomber could not be a Muslim who killed the Somali people.

He further said that suicide bombers are targeting Somalia today, soon they will detonate in neighboring countries, so we have to take action together against these terrorists.
