The star batsman of the Indian women’s cricket team, Smriti Mandhana, was nominated on Friday for the ICC (International Cricket Council) Cricket Player of the Year award for her outstanding performances in all formats. Mandhana was nominated for the first prize along with the English Tammy Beaumont, the South African Lizelle Lee and the Irish Gabby Lewis. The award is given to the best performing player overall in women’s international cricket (Test, ODI and T20 Internationals) during the year.

The winner will be announced on January 23rd. The 25-year-old left-handed hitter scored 855 runs in 22 international games with an average of 38.86 during the year 2021. This includes a century and five half centuries. In the limited series of overs at home against South Africa, the Indian team had to face defeat in six of eight matches.
