Settimio Aloisio, top representative in the 90s, died

The Italian Settimio Aloisio, former representative of an important generation of Argentine soccer players, including Claudio Caniggia and Gabriel Batistuta, in the 1980s and 1990s, died at the age of 89 in Calabria, where he lived. At that time, when the figure of proxies was just gaining importance in the Argentine market, Aloisio was one of the most coveted figures and counted among his clients several of the best soccer players of the moment.

The news of the death of Aloisio was released this Wednesday by the Corriere di Calabria newspaper, although the death of the former representative occurred during the day on Tuesday, without the causes being disclosed.

Aloisio was the agent of famous soccer players such as “Bati” and Caniggia, and he was also the first to link Diego Armando Maradona with Napoli, back in 1978 and when he was the coordinator of the Cebolllitas, the famous youth category of Argentinos Juniors where he played The star. His histrionics, his particular Italian accent and his important client portfolio made him a central character for radio and television sports programs of the time. His figure popularized a work that was very little known at that time.

On his Twitter profile, Aloisio had written “…From Aiello Calabró to the world, a centrojás from before”, mentioning his birthplace in Calabria, Cosenza province.

Aloisio marked an era in what soccer players’ agents or representatives are concerned since in his years of activity this function was not regulated by FIFA, as it has been for several years. He had retired from his “specialty” almost two decades ago, in which he knew how to represent, in addition to Batistuta and Cannigia, Pedro Troglio, Diego Cagna and Luis Alberto Carranza, among other footballers, in addition to having ventured into the Colombian market as a proxy for stars of the time such as Faustino Asprilla, the Adolfo Valencia Train and Freddy Rincón, among others.
