Sergio Higuita enters the top 10 in the Volta ao Algarve

The queen stage of the Volta ao Algarve was run. This Thursday the second day of the Portuguese race was held, which began in Sagres and ended in Alto da Fóia, first category mountain pass with an inclination of 6-1%. Magnus Cort from EF Education-EasyPost was the winner of the day, whoue had three other promotions.

The Dane was left with the victory after attacking from behind on the left flank and winning in the packing Belgian Ilan Van Wilder from Soudal – Quick Step, who trusted and celebrated ahead of time. Third place went to the Portuguese Rui Costa from the Intermarché – Circus – Wanty. They all came in with a time of 5 hours, 7 minutes and 5 seconds.

Sergio Higuita from Bora Hansgrohe and Daniel Felipe Martínez from Team Ineos Grenadiers were the most outstanding Colombians after finishing in places 13 and 15, respectively, 2 seconds behind the winner of the day. On the other hand, Yesid Albeiro Pira from Caja Rural-Seguros RGA did not take part and left the competition after his fall on the first day.

Thanks to his stage victory, Cort Magnus became the new leader of the general classification. Sergio Higuita climbed several places and is now in the top 10, 0:12 seconds behind the EF Education – EasyPost runner. Daniel Felipe Martínez has the same time, but occupies box 12.

This Friday the Volta ao Algarve will continue with the third stage which has a 203.1-kilometer route that will start in Faro and end in Tavira. During the day there will be two third category mountain passes and an intermediate sprint.
