Senegal: Violent protests in support of opposition leader, 9 people killed

Dakar: In the African country of Senegal, riots broke out after the opposition leader was sentenced to two years in prison, nine people were killed and many were injured in the violent protests.

It should be noted that the opposition leader of Senegal was sentenced to two years in prison by the court yesterday on the charge of corrupting the youth.

Supporters of opposition leader Osmane Sono have described the charges against him as a ploy to prevent him from running in the February 2024 presidential election, saying the government and the court deny the ruling.

It should be noted that Ousmane Sono came third in the 2019 presidential election in Senegal. He is extremely popular among the youth across the country.
