Senator Adrián Peña was killed in a head-on collision in Canelones

Colorado Party Senator Adrián Peña died tonight in a traffic accident, the Canelones Police Department reported shortly after midnight. The accident occurred on Route 36, at kilometer 30, corresponding to Section 19 of Progreso.

The accident involved two vehicles that collided head-on, one of which was driven by a 27-year-old young man who suffered serious injuries (brain trauma, chest trauma and loss of consciousness). He is hospitalized in Crami de Las Piedras.

The other vehicle was driven by Senator Peña, who died in the accident.

According to Las Piedras prosecutor Bárbara Zapater, witnesses to the accident stated that the senator’s car crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the young man’s vehicle. He added that no leads were found that the senator tried to prevent.

According to the judge, the senator’s car was traveling from Los Cerrillos when, on a curve at kilometer 30, it “went into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with another car.” Zapater reported that the other driver left his job at the Las Piedras meat processing plant and was heading toward Los Cerrillos.

Zapater also stated that Peña was not wearing a seatbelt and that his savings account expired two years ago.

Tests and blood tests are carried out to determine whether the drivers have had alcohol or drugs.

There are surveillance cameras in the area.
