Scocco and Maxi Rodríguez will continue playing for Hughes in the Venadense League

As much as both retired at the end of last year, Ignacio Scocco and Maxi Rodríguez will continue to play soccer. Friends and former teammates at Newell’s, the striker and the midfielder will continue to be active at the Hughes Football Club, a team that plays in the Venadense League and of which Scocco is president.

Through its social networks, the club confirmed the news that had been speculating since last year when Scocco insisted on his friend to accompany him on the adventure. “Good day to you, that you have Nacho and Maxi on your team. It’s official. Welcome home!” wrote the account of the Santa Fe club, where Scocco started before joining Newell’s inferiors.

Scocco, 36, and Maxi Rodríguez, 41, retired from professional soccer at the end of last year with the Newell’s jersey, with which they were champions of the 2013 Final Tournament under the technical direction of Gerardo “Tata” Martino.

A year ago, the scorer had already anticipated the possibility that was made official this Thursday. “He has already promised that he will play a tournament with me for Hughes Football Club when he retires,” Scocco said at the time, who had also promised him that he would be the team captain because he is older: “The captaincy is by age , so it’s going to be Maxi’s”. The eventual debut of the new-old companions is scheduled for February 15, when the Venadense contest begins.

Both took the same path as midfielder Leonardo Ponzio (39), who closed his time at River last December and will play this year at Williams Kemmis in Las Rosas, which plays in the Canadian Soccer League.
