Saudi Arabia’s big step towards opening its airspace

Who is Biden's new ambassador to Saudi Arabia?

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has opened airspace for all aircraft.

According to the details, the General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia has said that as long as additional flights are required, all passenger planes can use Saudi airspace.

The Saudi agency said in a tweet on Friday that all aircraft that meet the requirements of the overflying authority would be allowed to enter Saudi airspace.

There was no word on when the ruling would take effect, but President Biden welcomed the announcement.

According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the decision was made out of a desire to fulfill its obligations under the 1944 Chicago Convention.

It should be noted that the Chicago Convention stipulates non-discrimination between civil aircraft.

The authority said that Saudi Arabia is a global hub connecting the three continents, adding that this change in principle would strengthen the position and increase international air connectivity.

It should be noted that in June 2021, Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman had launched an important strategy called National Transport and Logistics Strategy to make the country a global logistics hub.

The goal of this comprehensive program is to double the capabilities of the air cargo sector to more than 4.5 million tons.
