Riyadh: The Saudi government has issued new instructions to all Saudis who have more than four foreigners working as employees.
Saudi officials have issued a statement clarifying the issue of domestic workers in the kingdom.
The ban on having four domestic workers for Saudis and two for foreigners will be implemented in two phases.
The first phase will start on new domestic workers coming from abroad, which will be implemented from Sunday, May 22, while the second phase will be implemented from next year.
According to Saudi media, the decision of the Saudi cabinet stated that Saudi citizens who have more than four domestic workers should be charged an additional fee of 9600 riyals for renewal and issuance of accommodation for each additional employee.
The cabinet’s decision will also apply to foreigners who have more than two domestic workers under their care. They will also pay an additional fee of 9600 riyals for the issuance and renewal of each additional employee’s residency.
It should be noted that the second phase of the law on additional fees imposed on domestic workers will come into force from 21 Shawwal 1444 AH next year.
This will apply to newly arrived domestic workers or existing employees, who will have to pay an additional fee of 9600 riyals for each of the more than four employees, after which their residency can be renewed.
