Saudi Arabia announces harsher punishments for beggars

Riyadh: Saudi authorities have issued strict instructions against individuals and groups involved in begging, locals involved in begging will be fined and imprisoned, while foreigners will be deported.

According to the Saudi website, the Public Prosecution Authority says that it is against the law for one or more people involved in any form of begging to support begging or to collect money illegally.

Those involved in begging are sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 riyals. In case of being a foreigner, after completing the sentence, he will be deported from the country and blacklisted forever.

The prosecution’s Twitter account further states that any person directly or indirectly involved in begging, inciting or aiding and abetting, will be arrested and prosecuted. Such persons will be sentenced to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of 50,000 riyals.

Those who run a begging network or are involved in this disgusting profession in any way, whether directly or indirectly, will face one year imprisonment and a fine of 100,000 riyals.

In case of being a foreigner, such persons will be expelled from the country and they will be blacklisted forever. People who will be blacklisted will be able to come to the country only on Umrah or Hajj visa.
