Sandy Alcantara of the Marlins and Dylan Cease of the White Sox are the Pitchers of the Month for June.

Alcantara is the second Marlins starter recognized as the NL Pitcher of the Month this season. His teammate, Venezuelan Pablo López, won the award in April.

Alcantara, 26, pitched seven innings or more in each of his six starts last month, extending his streak of starts of at least seven innings to 10. On June 8, he pitched nine scoreless innings in the Marlins’ extra-inning win over the Nationals and ended the month pitching the road in a win over the Cardinals.

In total, the Dominican went 3-1 with an ERA of 1.89, WHIP of 0.88, 34 strikeouts and eight walks in 47.2 innings of work in June.

For his part, Cease is the first White Sox pitcher named American League Pitcher of the Month since Lucas Giolito in May 2019.

Cease, 26, gave up just one earned run in 27 1/3 innings in June, posting a 0.33 ERA and striking out 35 batters while holding the opposition to a .192 average. In his last two starts of the month, he struck out 24 of the batters he faced and allowed just one run in 13.0 innings.
