Samsung is pushing updates to millions of unsupported Galaxy phones

Samsung is pushing out software updates for some of its older devices, but now it’s taking it even further. The company it started one push updates to millions of unsupported Galaxy phones.

The Galaxy S8 was released in 2016 and officially lost support in 2020, so it was a surprise to see the phone receive a GPS software update. The same thing happened with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note8.

Looks like Samsung didn’t leave it there, but that is releasing GPS software updates for some of its older devices.

According to Sam Mobile, the GPS update is coming to Galaxy A7 (2018), Galaxy S5 Neo (2015), Galaxy S6 (2015) and Galaxy Alpha (2014). It is estimated that there are over 500 million of these phones still out there.

Needless to say, these are really old devices, and most of these units are probably no longer in operation. However, Samsung decided to push the updates. If you have one of these phones, you can download the update.

You must keep in mind that these updates only affect the phone’s GPS tracking features. You don’t get any additional functionality and you don’t receive security updates.
