Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 in detail

Samsung’s new smartwatch was unveiled last week and pre-orders are now open for all wearable fans.

But what does the Galaxy Watch 5 bring new? Various things, including a new Pro model and a skin temperature sensor. Get to know, in detail, the latest Samsung wearable.

The Galaxy Watch 5 comes equipped with heart rate sensors, an electrical bioimpedance sensor, and also an ECG sensor, features that it inherits from the previous model. But it also brings with it a sensor to measure skin temperature, which is one of the great novelties in Samsung wearables that followed the market trend, by including this specification in its new generation of wearables.

Remember that Fitbit and Huawei smartwatches, at least, already include this feature that works through infrared.

As with other rival models, also with the Galaxy Watch 5 the skin temperature data is included in the health-related metrics, but it should be noted that it is the skin temperature and not the body temperature. In other words, it is not possible to use current smartwatches as thermometers.

The Galaxy Watch 5 generation includes larger batteries

One of the most relevant updates has been the battery with all Galaxy Watch 5 models including larger batteries than their predecessors. The 40mm model features a 284mAh battery (versus the 247mAh variant of the previous model) and the 44mm variant is equipped with a 410mAh battery (the previous model has a 361mAh battery).

Of course, the Pro model includes the largest battery at 590 mAh. This means that the new generation of Samsung wearables provides greater autonomy, requiring more time between charges.

Otherwise, all models are equipped with 10-watt Qi wireless charging.

Interestingly, Samsung has not equipped the new generation Watch 5 with Qualcomm’s recently announced Snapdragon W5 processor. All smartwatches in the series are powered by the brand’s proprietary Exynos W920, which appears to be the same chip as the previous generation.

The news doesn’t get any better with the operating system remaining WearOS, designed specifically for Samsung smartwatches but only providing compatibility with smartphones running Android 8 or higher.

Which means that only users of the Android universe will be able to enjoy all the news of the Watch 5 series, which, like the previous generation, continues to prevent access to fans of Apple’s iOS.

Although the new generation Galaxy Watch 5 has maintained a very similar design to the previous one, it has a significant battery improvement and a new skin temperature sensor that shows that Samsung listens to users and follows market trends.

For its part, the new Pro model, more aimed at fans of outdoor activities and sports, comes with an adventure-resistant design, an announced autonomy of 80 hours and exclusive functions such as, for example, step-by-step navigation. Step.

All in all, the new Galaxy Watch 5 series, which arrives in stores on August 26 with a price starting at 289.90 euros, has arguments to conquer users… Android, of course.
