Salaries: none of the best paid DTs in the world is a leader in their league

Argentine Diego Simeone is the highest paid coach in the worldaccording to a ranking published by the French sports newspaper L’Equipe in which he surpasses renowned figures such as the Spanish Pep Guardiola and the Portuguese José Mourinho, among others.

The coach of Atlético de Madrid is the only non-European in the top ten of the list, with great difference on the rest.

Total, Cholo charges 34 million euros per year, that is, about 2.8 million euros per month. Well far from the second, Guardiola, with 22.4 million euros per year; and the third, the German Jürgen Klopp, with 17.8 million.

So, these are the ten best paid coaches today with a curiosity, none of their teams are leaders in their respective leagues:

  • Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid; 3rd in LaLiga 17 points behind the leader Barcelona; eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage): 34 million euros per year.
  • Pep Guardiola (Manchester City; 2nd in the Premier League 8 points behind leader Arsenal; in the quarterfinals of the Champions League): 22.4 million euros per year.
