Russia attacks Ukraine's power grid with drones and missiles

Ukraine said on Friday (March 29, 2024) that Russian forces damaged three thermal power plants by firing 99 drones and missiles into its territory, of which 84 were shot down.

In response to Kiev’s attacks on Russian border regions, Moscow has increased its attacks on Ukraine and particularly on its energy infrastructure in recent weeks.

Ukrainian Energy Minister Guerman Galushchenko had previously reported a “massive attack” on energy production sites in the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Cherkasy regions.

The governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region (center), Sergiy Lysak, said that “several energy facilities were damaged” in the area.

The Russian attack led to the activation of anti-aircraft alarms across Ukraine on the night of Thursday to Friday.

Likewise, the Polish armed forces announced that they had withdrawn their military aircraft due to the presence of Russian missiles in western Ukraine near the border.
