Challenges in the Racing World
Returning to the world of rallies after a break can be tough, and for Kalle Rovanperä, this year’s start has been particularly rocky. Following a fourth-place finish in the recent Montecarlo Rally, where his teammate Sebastien Ogier took the top spot, Rovanperä has now faced another setback in his home country.
Currently participating in the Rally Arctic Lapland in Finland, Rovanperä aims to prepare for the upcoming Sweden rally, the second World Cup event in the WRC calendar, scheduled for February 13 to 16. This event is also an opportunity for him to get accustomed to the new Hankook tires, which have replaced Pirelli.
Incident in the Rally Arctic Lapland
The beginning of the Rally Arctic Lapland did not go as planned for Rovanperä. During the first special stage, Aittajarvi 1, while driving his Toyota Yaris Rally1, he encountered a spectator who was inside a curve. To avoid hitting the spectator, Rovanperä had to swerve, which led to his vehicle colliding with a snow slope on the outer edge of the track.
No Injuries Reported
Fortunately, Rovanperä’s quick reflexes helped avoid serious damage to the spectator and ensured that both he and his co-pilot, Jonne Halttunen, were unharmed. Despite the incident, the duo was able to continue participating in the rally, taking part in the second special stage of the day, Venni-Mäntyvaara. This close call has not deterred Rovanperä, who can proceed with his tests and preparations for upcoming events.
