Ronel Blanco, who put in an impressive performance in the preseason, earned himself a spot on the Houston Astros’ early-season roster, an organization that now has six Dominican pitchers on its pitching staff.
The 30-year-old right-hander will join Frámber Valdez and Cristian Javier, two of the team’s top starters, as well as relievers Rafael Montero, Brayan Abreu and Héctor Neris.
Blanco posted an excellent 0.64 ERA in 14 innings and six games, two starting and four closers, in which he struck out 17 and posted an 0-86 WHIP.
He has served as the closer for the Eastern Stars for the past two years, replacing Wirfin Obispo.
For the second consecutive year, Blanco has secured a place in the starting squad of the world champions.
