After a good time trial for Rigoberto Urán in the ninth stage of the Giro d’Italia, The EF announced that after the tests carried out on the runner he tested positive for covid-19, for which reason he leaves the competition in which he was in 22nd place overall, 6 minutes and 23 seconds behind the leader Remco Evenepoel who won the time trial.

“Rigoberto Urán has tested positive for covid after showing symptoms this afternoon. He will leave the Giro and take this time to rest before resuming his next competitions.”this was made official by the American team that according to the competition regulations, each squad was free to decide what would happen to their riders in the event of a positive case.

Rigoberto had been very happy after his performance in the time trial and he was motivated to continue. However, in the routine tests the Colombian tested positive, so they preferred to give him rest and for him to abandon the race in order to recover well and face the rest of the calendar that is planned for 2023, his next challenge would be the Tour de France.
