Retailers will make purchases for more than RD$500 million to impact prices of mass consumption products

The United Retailers Group of the Dominican Republic announced this Thursday the start of a joint purchase program for the order of RD$500 million, through trade associations and federations, with the intention of applying economies of scale for affiliated grocery stores to purchase their inventories at wholesale prices.

Ricardo Rosario, president of the entity that brings together merchants and businessmen, indicated that the initiative, carried out during the month of June, will guarantee discounts ranging from 5% in industrialized products to 15% in agricultural items.

“The products that will be marketed in this first stage are rice, sugar, oils, milk, corn flour, bananas, eggs, and financing services for electric motors and refrigeration equipment for grocery stores will also be offered,” he explained.

He pointed out that parts of these purchases will be made with their own resources, in addition to the RD$100 million facility granted by the Government of President Luis Abinader, through the National Council for the Promotion and Support of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (PROMIPYME). ), in order to contribute to the unification of the trade sector.

“In our capacity as president of the United Retailers Group, we announce to the entire country the start of joint purchases in the sector, in an unprecedented alliance that involves more than 90% of the retailers organized in associations and federations, which will mobilize in purchases joint above 500 million pesos”, Rosario specified during the launch of the 1st. National Retail Business Convention 2022.

At the same time, the entity requested the Ministries of Agriculture and Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM) and the General Directorates of Customs (DGA) and Internal Taxes (DGII), INESPRE and MERCADOM, to accompany them in these sessions that “ It seeks to guarantee food security, the generation of jobs and fair prices for producers and consumers.”

The United Retailers Group, made up of more than 26 organizations, specified that the purpose of the 1st.
