Hunter Renfroe hit a go-ahead 3-pointer in the 10th inning, and the Milwaukee Brewers outscored the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Saturday, who blew a terrific start by Adam Wainwright.

Milwaukee came within a half game of St. Louis itself, leader of the National League Central Division. The Cardinals had a nine-game home winning streak snapped.

Wainwright didn’t allow a hit until the seventh inning. He ended up pitching nine full innings, in which he allowed one run and three hits, in addition to prescribing eight strikeouts in a 109-pitch effort.

The Cardinals gave their 40-year-old ace a 1-0 lead in the seventh inning on Nolan Gorman’s double to left-center off starter Corbin Burnes. Paul Goldschmidt, who led off the inning with a single, scored from the start after the ball slipped past outfielder Tyrone Taylor.

But Wainwright allowed a home run by Mexican Luis Urías, on the first pitch of the eighth inning and with one out. Devin Williams (4-2) retired all three of his opponents in the ninth inning and ended up getting the win.

In the 10th, Renfroe led off with a 3-pointer off Giovanny Gallegos (2-5) to drive in automatic runner Andrew McCutchen. He scored later on a sacrifice fly by Kolten Wong.

Matt Bush made the save.

For the Brewers, the Dominican Willy Adames 4-0. The Mexican Urías 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI. Puerto Rican Victor Caratini 4-0.

For the Cardinals, the Dominican Albert Pujols 1-0. Puerto Rican Yadier Molina 4-1.
