Remco Evenepoel to Compete in Tour de Romandie After Injury Recovery

Remco Evenepoel is set to ride the Tour de Romandie, a WorldTour stage race kicking off on April 29. This announcement from the Swiss race organizers likely means a tweak in the Belgian cyclist’s return to competition. Evenepoel has been out for nearly five months, recovering from a shoulder injury sustained in a December 3, 2024, car accident during preseason training.

His comeback was initially slated to start at the La Flèche Brabançonne on April 18. Then he’d tackle the hilly classics: Amstel Gold Race on April 20, La Flèche Wallonne on April 23, and Liège-Bastogne-Liège on April 27. The Tour de Romandie begins just two days after Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the fourth major classic of the season.

Big News for Fans

The Tour de Romandie organizers are excited to have Evenepoel on board. “We’ve received the first entry lists, and one name stands out: Remco Evenepoel, the two-time Olympic champion from Paris,” they announced. After his December accident with a Belgian postal car, Evenepoel aims to use the Tour de Romandie as a stepping stone back to the top, with his sights on the Tour de France.

This new development may prompt Evenepoel and his team to adjust their plans. The Tour de Romandie features five stages and a prologue, which should help him gear up for the Tour de France. His revised schedule includes the Critérium du Dauphiné from June 8 to 15, just a few weeks before the Tour de France kicks off in Lille on July 5.

Here are the key dates for Evenepoel’s return to competition:

  • Liège-Bastogne-Liège: April 27
  • Tour de Romandie: April 29 – May 4
