The first match of IPL 2024 was played on March 22 between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 173 runs. Faf du Plessis’s statement on defeat

After losing the match, RCB captain Faf du Plessis said, “Chennai plays well in the middle overs and creates pressure with spin bowling. Unfortunately we lost a lot of wickets in the first 6-7 overs, which meant the next batsmen had to bat in the innings. Stability had to be created. The pitch was very good but I think we scored 15-20 runs less. We were constantly trying to stay ahead in the game but Chennai’s batting strategy was such that they wanted to stay ahead in the game. We tried to take wickets with short balls too, but we couldn’t. We failed in the middle overs but the runs fell short.”

RCB lost due to the partnership of Shivam Dubey and Ravindra Jadeja

CSK’s run rate was excellent from the start but the team had lost 4 wickets for 110 runs. Due to the continued loss of wickets, Chennai Super Kings were at risk of defeat. Meanwhile, Shivam Dubey scored 34 runs in 28 balls and Ravindra Jadeja scored 25 runs in 17 balls. Their 66-run partnership continued till the end and Shivam Dubey ensured victory for his team by hitting a four on the fourth ball of the 19th over. With this, the Chennai Super Kings have won the IPL 2024 with a spectacular victory.
