Royal Challengers Bangalore edged Mumbai Indians by 12 runs in a nail-biter. This win marked their first victory over Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium in 10 years.
Rajat Patidar and Kohli’s half-centuries helped RCB post 221 runs. Mumbai’s chase began on a weak note, losing four wickets for 99 runs in 12 overs. Rohit Sharma, who came in as an impact player, managed 17 runs off 9 balls before getting bowled by Yash Dayal.
The game took a dramatic turn when Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma took charge, scoring 42 and 56 runs respectively. The duo’s dismissal sealed the deal for RCB. Chasing 222, Mumbai’s top-order crumbled, with Suryakumar Yadav and Will Jacks departing for 28 and 22 runs respectively.
Hardik and Tilak’s explosive batting shifted the momentum. The 13th over saw 17 runs, followed by 22 in the 14th, 19 in the 15th, and 13 in the 16th. Mumbai’s score read 181/4 after 17 overs, putting them in a strong position.
However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Tilak in the 18th over, and Josh Hazlewood sent Hardik back in the 19th. With 28 runs needed off 12 balls, Hazlewood conceded only 9 in the 19th over. The final over required 19 runs, but Krunal Pandya struck twice, ensuring RCB’s win.
