Razgatlioglu and Yamaha part ways

While talk of a possible debut in MotoGP continued, Toprak Razgatlioglu He made a decision that will change his future forever. The Turkish rider has informed Yamaha his desire to leave the team at the end of this season, date your contract expires. A decision made entirely by the pilot, who was in negotiations with the Japanese brand for his renewal, but whose difference in terms of reaching an economic agreement has been reflected in its resolution. To the surprise of many, the 2021 Superbike World Champion will part ways with the team that helped him fulfill a dream and, although many rumors pointed to the possibility of seeing him make the leap to MotoGP hand in hand with the Japanese, that idea will remain as a utopia with which to continue dreaming.

And it is that this decision distances Toprak much more from having the opportunity to debut in the highest category of motorcycling. The closest he has been was a private test with Yamaha, which made available to the Turk an M1 like Quartararo and Morbidelli’s, with which he also surprised. But his dream will be on pause for the moment and Razgatlioglu bets on a new stage in WorldSBK. In fact, the 26-year-old pilot is already in contact with BMW to reach an agreement that unites them from next 2024. “I want to thank the entire Yamaha family for the love and respect they have shown me,” Toprak comments in the brand’s statement, where his departure at the end of the season has been made official.

“Winning the world championship was my dream when I signed with Yamaha, and together we have achieved that goal. For the next season I feel that I need a new challenge and although there was an opportunity in MotoGP, I did not feel the same connection with the bike that I have with the Superbike”, explains the Turkish, who leaves the team after winning a World Championship, 31 victories and 47 podiums so far. “If I want to continue in WorldSBK I need a new goal, a new ambition”, admits the pilot, who will continue to fight to the maximum for a new crown that seems complicated given the superiority of Álvaro Bautista with the Ducati. On the other hand, Yamaha communicates that, despite wanting to “continue what has been an incredibly successful partnership”, respect the pilot’s decision of wanting to accept a new challenge next year. “We will regret that Toprak leaves Yamaha at the end of this season,” he confesses Andrea DosoliRoad Racing Manager for Yamaha Motor Europe, in the same statement.
