Raj Bawa has now become the highest run scorer in an innings for India in ICC U19 World Cup history. Raj Bawa has broken Indian starter Shikhar Dhawan’s 14-year record with the help of his explosive tackles. Before Bawa at the U19 World Cup, Dhawan held the record for scoring the most runs in one inning. Popularly known as Gabbar, Dhawan played an unbeaten 155-run innings against Scotland in Dhaka in 2004.
Overall, this is the eighth highest individual score at the Under-19 World Cup, with Sri Lanka’s H Boyagoda still on top with a 191-run slam against Kenya in the previous edition of the tournament.
Speaking of India’s innings, aside from Raj Bawa, starter Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a blistering 144-run inning. During this, Raghuvanshi hit 22 fours and 4 huge sixes. There was a 206-run partnership for the third wicket between Raghuvanshi and Bawa.
India has already qualified for the Super League stage by winning the first two matches of the U-19 World Cup. The Indian team won the first match against South Africa by 45 runs, while in the second match they defeated Ireland by 174 runs.
