Former Activision Blizzard CEO Sues Kotaku, Gizmodo Over Defamation Claims

Former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick is suing media outlets Kotaku and Gizmodo. He claims they tried to ruin his reputation with false stories about workplace abuse and harassment.

Kotick says these stories were meant to harm him. He’s suing their parent company, G/O Media. The suit was reported by Courthouse News Service.

The stories in question were about two cases that got dropped. Kotaku and Gizmodo tried to keep the false claims alive, says Kotick. Their parent company knows these claims are false but still published them to hurt Kotick’s reputation.

Kotaku and Gizmodo updated their articles and removed harmful comments. But Kotick says it’s not enough. He wants compensation and to clear his name.

Background

Kotick faced bad press before. There were allegations of sexual harassment at Activision Blizzard since 2019. He was also accused of blocking the firing of an employee who allegedly harassed someone. In 2006, he allegedly threatened to kill his assistant.
